What was once labeled as the nicest Equestrian Center on the Planet, The Bay Harbor Equestrian Center has been host to some of the most famous horse personel alive. Unfortunately, Northern Michigan winters are not the best place for award winning horses, so the Equestrian Center began to sit vacant for many months out of the year. Sitting on 23 acres of pristine property many developers have tried to acquire the property, tear down the equestrian center and develop the land. Bay Harbor Developer Dave Johnsonn (who built the equestrian center back in 1996) isn’t one to let a beautiful and historic property like this go to waste. When the Bay Harbor team took Gypsy Spirits to the EC the first time, everything just felt right. The Gypsy Spirits Team wasn’t just looking for a place to expand their distilling operation, but were looking for someplace special they could transform for the rest of their lives, and thus the idea of Gypsy Distillery was created. The team, with Dave’s help, acquired the property in Nov. 2021, 4 years after opening their first distillery. After this began the hard work, transforming a 42,000 sq ft wooden building into a state of the art distillery, tasting room, cocktail garden, and event space. Relying on the help of a friend turned General Contractor Bruce Hulmodt the Gypsy Team began the build out of this must see attraction.
